I was recently contacted by Kari Raynor who was one of my students at Bauder College in Atlanta, GA. Kari graduated in 2010 with a bachelor degree in Fashion Design. Kari contacted me on LinkedIn and asked me if I would develop a brand for her new line of clothing. I was very pleased to find out that she is now a successful fashion designer in Washington, D.C. and was glad to assist with her with branding her new line. Kari sent me a very rough sketch of how she wanted the uppercase K and R to be designed. I took it from there and sent a number of concepts using various typefaces. Kari narrowed it down to one and asked me if I could also include KaRa below the uppercase letters as that is the name of the line of clothing. I again sent a number of concepts using various typefaces for the text. She again narrowed it down to one. Then she asked me if there was a way to make the brand appeal to an African American market. I then incorporated the female silhouette into the uppercase K. Kari loved it and was very pleased with the graphic. She then said that the line is intended for men and women and would it be possible to convey that in the brand. I then incorporated the male silhouette into the uppercase R. Kari loved the design and felt that it was very unique to her brand and truly conveys the feel that she was looking for to market her line. Not only was I very pleased to know that Kari has gone on to be a successful fashion designer, but she was really fun and exciting to work with.
