This PSA regarding Dementia is an academic project that I designed specifically for my portfolio. We assigned this project to our students at Sanford Brown College and has some very creative results. I designed this and another PSA campaign as an example for students. The assignment was to create several pieces for a PSA that would inform the public about Dementia. The client is Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle. It has a special meaning to me because I lost my Mother after a long bout with Dementia. At first we noticed that she was forgetting little things and we just thought, Mom is getting up in years and becoming a little forgetful. She was later diagnosed with Dementia and the last two years of her life were very sad and miserable for her. Dementia does not only cause forgetfulness, but it completely changes a person’s demeanor.  My Mother continued to lose her memory and eventually became malnourished from not eating. Although she was in assisted living she continued to lose weight until it became dangerous to her health. Her attitude changed drastically and she became very angry. She was like a completely different person. Dementia is a horrible, debilitating disease and I encourage anyone who thinks that a loved one may have early signs of Dementia to become as informed and prepared as possible. Hopefully this type of PSA will help to inform people about the effects that Dementia can have on the entire family.
